Borgo San Lorenzo

Borgo San Lorenzo is at the heart of the Mugello, the green valley that separates Florence from the Apennine ridge, and is, so to speak, the capital of the valley.

HOW TO GET THERE
By train
Florence - Borgo San Lorenzo line, via Vaglia.
Florence - Faenza, via Pontassieve.
By bus
From Florence, SITA and CAP lines daily departures from Libertà Square.
Florentia Bus coach from Careggi on weekdays, weekends and holidays from Santa Maria Novella station.
By car
Take the A1 motorway and exit at Barberino del Mugello (16 km from Florence).
Alternatively take the Regionale 302 (Faentina), via Polcanto (28 km from the centre of Florence).

The surroundings
The territory around includes both sides of the Mugello. The southern side includes the slopes of Mount Giovi, with the Pieve of San Cresci in Valcava, and the two parallel valleys of Salaiole and Faltona. On the slopes of Monte Senario the millenarian Badia del Buonsollazzo, rebuilt in the early 18th century.

North of the river Sieve the land rises, at first, to the plateau resulting from lake deposits of the Pliocene period which created the undulating agricultural landscape around the Roman Pieve of San Giovanni Maggiore. The road then reaches the high ground which climbs up to the Apennine ridge, where we can find Ronta, a holiday resort at the confluence of two torrents which flow down the ridge, and Luco del Mugello, with its vast complex of the San Pietro Monastery, presently being restored.

EVENTS
From the beginning of April to the middle of September - Sagre del Tortello (tortello is a kind of pasta), in honour of this, the prince of Mugello cuisine. These feasts take place in the various villages around Borgo.
The second week of June, from Thursday to Sunday - Fiera Agricola Mugellana (an agricultural fair), specialized in agricultural products and livestock.
Third weekend in November - Mostra mercato del tartufo bianco (the white truffle fair).
