Contemporary ceramic production
At present there are about seventy firms which continue the ceramic
tradition in the area between Sesto Fiorentino and the adjoining
towns of Calenzano and Campi Bisenzio.
The best known company, and the most important one economically is
still the Richard- Ginori; alongside it there are other, sometimes
even quite small firms which have been able to carve themselves a
niche by diversifying and by putting emphasis on the quality of
production, in order to adapt to changes in the market and in tastes
and lifestyles.
Events
The most important event is Sesto d’Estate, one of the most popular
summer festivals in the Florentine area: from July to September
there are a series of concerts and shows with Italian and foreign
artists, cultural events and talks on science for the layman
organized by the Polo Scientifico of the University of Florence.

One of the Science Campus buildings.
In the autumn there are two important events: the programme of
theatrical performances, Intercity and the Festa dell’olio the olive
oil festival, an event which aims not only to give pride of place to
a typical local product, but also to bring out the natural resources
and the historic and artistic wealth of this area, as well as the
rediscovery of the culture expressed through olive growing.
In spring - Festa della Primavera, over a hundred firms exhibit
their products in stands in piazza Vittorio Veneto.
