The village of Castelmuzio, once called “Castel Mozzo”, and “Il Castello”, by the local people, has practically kept its medieval structure, castle walls and ramparts, virtually intact. The historic centre is entered through the old gate which has kept its original hinges and machicolations.

In the central small square there is Palazzo Fratini, a tower house which has become a hostel, and what was the medieval Spedale di San Giovanni Battista. The functions of hospice for pilgrims was also provided by the Confraternita della Santissima Trinitą e di San Bernardino (founded in 1450) where at present the Sacred Art Museum is housed with some interesting works (visits by arrangement).
Santo Stefano in Cennano

The Pieve of Santo Stefano in Cennano stands next to Castelmuzio.
Mentioned in a Lombard document in 715, it was restored in
Romanesque style. From the original base, divided into a nave and
two aisles, all that remains are three apses, while today the
interior is one single nave.
